In the futuristic Metro City, a brilliant scientist torn by the death of his young son secretly creates a robot child with incredible powers to replace him. The robot child named Astro Boy (Astro for short) is unable to fulfill the grieving man’s expectations. Because of this, Astro leaves to embark on a journey in search of acceptance. When an invasion of alien robot gladiators threatens Earth, he returns to save Metro City and reconcile with the father who has rejected him.
Astro Boy was the first Japanese series to have the qualities that has now become anime. It was originated as a manga in 1952 by Osamu Tezuka who is quite often referred to as the “god of manga”. Astro Boy has won world wide successes and recognition worldwide. The American computer 3D animated film based on the original Tezuka series hits theaters October 29th 2009.
