Little girls ages 13-65 (including my wife’s mother and best friend) commence to screaming with glee – Dakota Fanning has officially signed on to star in the Twilight sequel, New Moon.
Fanning will play the ancient and sinister vampire Jane of the Volturi. The vampire coven known as the Volturi resides in Volterra, Italy. They are regarded as “royalty” by other vampires because they have lived for well over three thousand years and act as police, enforcing the rule that vampires’ existence remain a secret from humans. Jane is one of the more prominent members of the clan, and has the ability to create illusions of pain. Fanning has admitted to being a big fan of the Stephenie Meyer’s series of novels in which the film series is based.
Filming for the Chris Weitz directed New Moon is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2009 in Vancouver, to be followed by two weeks of shooting in Volterra, Italy in May. The Twilight sequel is tentatively scheduled for a November 20, 2009 release, which means they better stay on point with their production schedule – I for one would not want to be on the bad side to those crazy fans.
