Marvel Comics Movie news has been keeping me quite busy over the last 24 hours. With the news that Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have both signed on to star in Iron Man 2 as Whiplash and Black Widow, what else could there possibly be? Well…it’s Avenger team member release changes.
The Kenneth Branagh directed Thor is now slated for June 17, 2011 rather than the original date of July 16, 2010. The Joe Johnston directed The First Avenger: Captain America will now come out on July 22, 2011 which was scheduled for May 6, 2011. Avenger team members having films one month away from each other seems like a master plan if I’ve ever seen one.
The actual Avengers film which will (as of now) include Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Nick Fury, and maybe even Black Widow as well as yet to be announced goodies & baddies will now come out on May 4, 2012 instead of its original date of July 15, 2011.
Still with me??? Apparently the summer of 2011 only includes films with Marvel comic characters. Sony also confirmed today that they will release Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 on May 6, 2011. Don’t worry though Iron Man 2 is still on like Donkey Kong for May 7, 2010.
This is a lot of Marvel property my fellow nerds, fan boys, and geek girls…a lot indeed.
