With just over a month until the release Star Trek, the sequel is already set up with screenwriters Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof to write a script. The writing team is waiting to assess the fan reaction to the first film is before getting specific on a premise storyline.
“Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month. With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We’ll be ambitious about what we’ll do.”, said Kurtzman.
The same tri-team have already been working together on Cowboys Vs Aliens. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have have been a team for several years and are responsible for the Star Trek script. Damon Lindelof is the co-creator of Lost with director JJ Abrams… so now you see the love triangle connection of creative minds.
J.J. Abrams has agreed to produce, but hasn’t yet confirmed if he will be directing the sequel. The screenwriters are aiming to finish a script by Christmas, so there can be a Summer 2011 release.
