Angels & Demons managed to “crucify” the box office this weekend, coming out victorious in the #1 position. The Da Vinci Code sequel came in at $48 million on approx. 7,000 screens in 3,527 theaters, barely beating  last weeks winning Star Trek by only $5 million. However, 3 years ago, The Da Vinci Code “flooded” 3,735 theaters with a $77.1 million opening weekend, ultimately grossing $217.5 million domestically and $540.7 million overseas. Angels & Demons is not looking to be “divine” over The Da Vince Code, but keep in mind that the book also suffered over a 50% drop in sales over The Da Vinci Code
