As if fans would have accepted anything different, today brings confirmation that the Hobbit films will have character continuity with The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.
In a Simon Mayo interview with Hobbit director Guillermo Del Toro on BBC 5 Radio, Del Toro confirms that Sir Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, and Andy Serkis would be reprising their roles in the upcoming Hobbit films. While he does not specifically say that each actor is returning as Gandalf, Elrond, and Smeagol/Gollum respectively, he does say, “…as the roles they originated in the trilogy.” I think is is extremely safe to say that this is a given and all is understood.
Check out the entire Simon Mayo broadcast over at the BBC HERE – the Hobbit casting talk is around the 02:10:55 mark. Cheers!
