Sean Penn has made the decision to take a year off from acting to focus on his family. Because of this, he has withdrawn from two projects he committed to following his Oscar win for Milk.
First was the action thriller, Cartel. The movie would have seen the Oscar winner as a dad who goes to Mexico to protect his son from the drug cartel that killed his wife. Asper Leth is directing the Universal/Imagine film, which will begin filming in the fall as long as the studio is able to strike a deal with one of the actors on their list who might replace Penn.
Second is the Farrelly Brothers’ The Three Stooges film. Peter and Bobby Farrelly are currently reviewing their short list to refill the role of Larry. The Farrellys’ list includes Paul Giamatti, Simon Pegg, Zach Galifanakis, and Larry David to join Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio Del Toro as Moe.
