There apparently was a battle between Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Timberlake (WTF?) to play the lead role in Warner Brothers’ / DC’s Green Lantern, but it ended with Ryan Reynolds adding a third comic book franchise to his resume.
Reynolds will play the headstrong top gun pilot Hal Jordan who becomes entrusted with an all-powerful ring and membership of the intergalactic police force, The Green Lantern Corps whose job it is to keep the peace in the universe.
After landing this role and also appearing in this summer’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, it can only mean that rumored talk about him one day playing the Flash is at it’s end. However, Reynolds’ other genre of romantic comedies is also raising his star status with The Proposal now over $100 million in box office.
So with Warner Bros. and DC putting a huge focus on the Green Lantern as their next Batman Begins, what will become of Reynolds’ commitment to a Deadpool film currently being worked? With Reynolds claiming openly that Deadpool is his favorite comic character, will he remain on board after the train wreck that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
Director Martin Campbell will begin shooting the Green Lantern in Sydney, Austrailia this coming January 2010.
