I know what you’re thinking, “Spider-Man 4 hasn’t started shooting yet”!
Well, regardless off this Sony Pictures is already looking ahead and has screenwriters for Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6 lined up . The is quite the curious nugget of info since James Vanderbilt was the first to take a crack at a draft of the Spider-Man 4 screenplay, but director Sam Raimi didn’t go for most of the plot ideas. The first rewrite opportunity was given to David Lindsay-Abaire, and then another provided to Gary Ross.
The most concerning issues surrounding the Spider-Man franchise was whether Raimi or key cast members Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst would return for any further Spidey films. After the last press circuit they did in 2007 for Spider-Man 3, it seemed as if Maguire & Dunst were burned out on this series and not down for a second triliogy, but I guess the old saying that “money talks” holds very true – atleast for the forth picture.
Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6 however, are due to be interconnected films and currently do not have Raimi or the current cast signed on. The idea of a “reboot” is also being circled around, but may onlt refer to a director and cast change rather than a story direction change. It turns out that Sony is extremelly egar to close the gap between release dates of the films because of the four year lull between Spidey 3 & 4, hence the locking down writers for 5 & 6 business.
