Fantastic Fest 2009 kicked off in a big way Thursday night September 24th, with the world premiere screening of Gentlemen Broncos, the latest eccentric comedy from writer/director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). Not necessarily a genre film like the rest of the festival entries, Broncos still managed to fit in with it’s oddness and hilarious premise.
The filmmakers and cast of Gentlemen Broncos arrived on the red carpet about 30 minutes before the show at Austin’s historic Paramount Theater for the premiere.
They all came out to introduce the film with Fantastic Fest co-creator, and co-owner of the Alamo Drafthouse Tim League, with Jemaine Clement (The Flight of the Conchords) appearing onstage in character as Dr. Ronald Chevalier, to read three winning science-fiction haikus submitted to the website.
They re-emerged onstage (this time Jemaine Clement as himself) for an informative and humorous Q&A.
Then everyone in attendance was invited to the Alamo Drafthouse’s new bowling/karaoke lounge the High Ball, for the Gentlemen Broncos after party.
Yours truly was there, so stay tuned for the review!
