I might be a bit biased since Will Forte is friends with my wife (Vickie Howell) and he graciously hosted us back stage one night on SNL for my birthday in New York City…but regardless of this I’m still getting amped about this one.
MacGruber is a recurring sketch on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, starring Will Forte as special ops. agent MacGruber which was created and written by Jorma Taccone (who also directed the film), Will Forte, & John Solomon and first appeared in January 2007.
MacGruber always seems to find himself, his assistant, and other bystanders in a scenario where he is in the process of deactivating a time bomb and becomes distracted by personal issues of the parties involved. As a result of the distractions, the bomb always detonates presumably killing he and his companions.
MacGruber is an intentional spoof of the TV series MacGyver (1985-1992) which followed resourceful secret agent Angus MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) an anti-violent problem solver and scientist for the fictional Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles with a background as a Bomb Disposal Technician for the fictional United States government agency, the Department of External Services. He uses unconventional methods and only the materials around him as resources to complete each death defying hurdle he faces.
MacGruber his theaters on April 23, 2010.
