Word landed today from Focus CEO James Schamus and Random House Films President Peter Gethers that Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) and his Protozoa Pictures will team with Brad Pitt and his Plan B Entertainment production company to produce the adventure thriller The Tiger, for the partnered Random House Films and Focus Features release. Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga (Babel) will adapt the screenplay per the upcoming nonfiction book The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival, by John Vaillant.
Darren Aronofsky and Brad Pitt almost worked together before when Pitt almost played the lead in Aronofsky’s The Fountain. No director has yet been confirmed for the film at this time. Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment will lead production of the feature with worldwide distribution rights held by Focus. The book, is slated for release on August 24th of this year by Alfred A. Knopf, an imprint of Random House, Inc.
It’s December 1997, and a man-eating tiger is on the prowl outside a remote village in Russia’s Far East. The tiger isn’t just killing people, it’s annihilating them, and a team of men and their dogs must hunt it on foot through the forest in the brutal cold. As the trackers sift through the gruesome remains of the victims, they discover that these attacks aren’t random: the tiger is apparently engaged in a vendetta. Injured, starving, and extremely dangerous, the tiger must be found before it strikes again.
