MTV.com has a new clip from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy up on their website. It’s a brief look, but it does give us a hint at the visual look and style of the film, which seems to be right in line with everything Marvel has done so far. Chris Pratt is a bit of inspired casting, because who saw Andy Dwyer’s schlubby ass in Parks and Recreation and had him in mind as a universe saving hero?
The good folks at Marvel are really jazzed about what James Gunn has in store for all of us (but would you expect them to not be, or to say if they weren’t?). They have a pretty good track record at turning lesser known properties into household names, but I’m curious how well this is going to play. Coming out in August — after we’ve already seen the Transformers destroy cities, Channing Tatum play a pointy-eared space hero, and Apes subjugate mankind — will people really be willing to pluck down their hard-earned money for a movie about heroes they know very little about? I’m guessing they will, but I have a feeling that this movie will be a real test for the studio. All I know is that I’ll be there because this looks like a ton of fun.
