I was pretty bummed when word came out that Bryan Singer had replaced Matthew Vaughn as the X-Men: Days of Future Past director and that Vaughn was instead going to work on bringing an acclaimed but relatively unknown comic book, Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ The Secret Service, to the big screen. Vaughn is one of the best action movie directors working today and his Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class movies rank highly on my list of best comic book movies of the past 10 years. I was looking forward to seeing what he could do with X-Men: Days of Future Past. I should add, though, that if Vaughn wasn’t going to do it, Singer was a good choice because X-Men: Days of Future Past kicks all kinds of ass (review coming soon!).
Well, here we have a trailer for what Vaughn has been up to with Kingsman: The Secret Service and it’s one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a long time. This movie looks like it could end up being one of the surprise hits of 2014. This looks like a mix of James Bond, old fashioned Knight movies, and a touch of Ender’s Game. Throw in Michael Caine and Samuel L Jackson and I’m sold. And who would have thought Colin Firth could pull off being a bad ass trainer of UK spies?
Produced by 20th Century Fox, Kingsman: The Secret Service will be released on October 24th, 2014.
