The trailer for the Guillermo Del Toro produced and Jorge Gutierrez directed The Book of Life is a visual feast. Who knows how the movie will actually turn out but this trailer promises, at the very least, an animated movie with a style unlike any I’ve ever seen. When I originally heard that there was an upcoming animated movie based around the Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos, I was really worried that it’d be a pretty conventional, borderline racist kind of movie. And while the “churros,” bullfighting, and Biz Markie singing has me kind of worried, I have a lot of faith that a Guillermo del Toro produced movie will deliver the goods. Consider me intrigued.
From 20th Century Fox: The Book of Life is the journey of Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart. Before choosing which path to follow, he embarks on an incredible adventure that spans three fantastical worlds where he must face his greatest fears. Rich with a fresh take on pop music favorites, The Book of Life encourages us to celebrate the past while looking forward to the future.
Produced by 20th Century Fox, The Book of Life is set for release on October 17th, and stars Diego Luna, Channing Tatum, and Zoe Saldana.
