Guillermo del Toro took to Legendary Pictures’ YouTube channel to announce that Pacific Rim 2 is a go for an April 7, 2017 release date. Many of my friends were over the moon for this movie, however my reaction was mixed. Despite my lukewarmness about the first movie, I am a del Toro fan and am always interested in what he’s doing. The first Pacific Rim was not a hit at US box offices (pulling in just 101 million dollars total during its run), but it was hugely popular overseas, pulling in an additional 309 million from overseas markets. I’d be shocked if the second didn’t capitalize on that box office discrepancy by giving it an even more international feel than the first movie, which wasn’t too shabby in that department already.
Pacific Rim 2 is currently set for an April 7th, 2017 release date, will presumably be directed by del Toro himself, and will be written by del Toro, Travis Beacham, and Zak Penn
