The cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just grew by one, but this one brings his fishy friends with him. Variety is reporting that Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa will be playing Aquaman. I’m a fan of Momoa and am excited to see his take on the character. Aquaman is probably the trickiest of all the Justice League heroes and is often played for comic relief due to the inherent silliness of the character. When done right, however, Aquaman is pretty dang amazing. I think Momoa will be able to bring the necessary gravitas to elevate the character from the punchline many take him for. Story wise, rumor has it that Aquaman is none too pleased with the “world machine” that wreaked all kinds of havoc in the Indian Ocean in Man of Steel. Aquaman’s iconic gold colored hair on Momoa: TBD.
As the Justice League cast grows, it’s fun being able to mentally place Cavill, Affleck, Gadot, Fisher, and now Momoa next to one another. It’s hard not to get really excited about what’s taking place. San Diego Comic Con is next month and with the Avengers 2 set to have a huge panel, I’d be really surprised if Warner Bros. and DC didn’t have a few tricks up their sleeve. Maybe we’ll get our first glimpse into what these iconic heroes look like standing side-by-side.
