12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie have been cast in Star Wars Episode VII. Their parts are still unspecified to us plebeian fans however here’s hoping that their characters are worthy of their immense talents. I really want Star Wars to be great again, but I have to admit that there’s a part of me that is bummed out by Nyong’o’s casting. I felt her work in 12 Years a Slave was amazing. As soon as I saw that movie, she’s someone I put on my list of “people to look out for” in future films, so it’s kind of a bummer to think that she could be locked down with these mega-blockbusters for the foreseeable future. I hope she’s able to do other work while she’s working on these.
Added Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy: “I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII. It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
Nyong’o and Christie join original Star Wars stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter ayhew, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Episode VII, along with fellow newcomers to the franchise, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. Star Wars: Episode VII is slated to arrive in theaters December 18, 2015.
